JANA BA DYO

Sushila Singh presents Jana Ba Dyo, a captivating exhibition that brings to life the grand journey of Seto Machindranath and the monumental chariot (rath) that carries him through the streets of Kathmandu. Through a series of intricate sketches, Singh captures the spirit, labour, and devotion behind the annual chariot procession, a sacred ritual upheld by the Newar community.

Her works document the meticulous craftsmanship involved in constructing the towering rath, from the binding of its wooden framework to the sacred ornaments that adorn it. Each sketch traces the movement of the chariot as it is pulled through different parts of the city, echoing the collective effort, faith, and celebration that define this centuries-old tradition.

Jana Ba Dyo is an invitation to observe, reflect, and immerse in the timeless rhythms of Kathmandu’s spiritual and cultural heritage.

PS Jana Ba Dyo art series was exhibited by Gallery 108 at Durbarmarg from 5th – 15th April 2025
